Hamlin Earns Second Season Victory with Late Surge in Samsung Mobile 500

McHenry, IL — April 20, 2010

 - If Denny Hamlin decided to include a rain dance as part of his pre-race routine for the remainder of the NASCAR season you could hardly blame him.  For the second time in three races Hamlin was victorious in a rain-delayed race, this time winning the Samsung Mobile 500 held Monday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway. 

 

 

Despite starting 29th Hamlin took the checkered flag by crossing the finish line .152 seconds ahead of Jimmie Johnson after a wild late-race wreck knocked out pole-sitter Tony Stewart and lap-leader Jeff Gordon.  The race featured a record-tying 29 lead changes and although Hamlin only led 12 total laps on the afternoon, it was the final 12 and the late-race surge earned the driver of No. 11 FedEx Toyota his 10th career Sprint Cup victory.
 The Sprint Cup victory was the second of the season for the Raybestos® brand and Joe Gibbs Racing.  Hamlin’s JGR teammate Kyle Busch utilized the same Raybestos brand brake package as Hamlin to finish third overall.

“We’ve really been performing well on the short tracks over the past two seasons and the Raybestos brake packages have been a big reason why,” said Hamlin. “However, people don’t usually characterize us being strong at tracks like this, so this was a huge victory.  Just like they’ve done during all the short track races, the Raybestos brakes held up perfectly all afternoon long.”
